END OF AN ERA

It’s the Festival of Quilts in a couple of weeks. It’s been almost 10 years since I first had a booth in the Quilters in Action section but I decided last year that 2021 would be my final one as an Exhibitor.

It’s been a wonderful experience meeting so many people and leading me to experiences I could only dream of. I will always be grateful and very thankful for that.

I will be there this year, teaching Q&E workshops, for the last time. I have three offerings repeated over the four days.

Stencil and Stitched Hare.

I have done a number of hare themed Quick and Easy workshops over the years and it has been a delight to find that some of you have come to them all. They have largely been of the Moon Gazing Hare, samples of which you can see in the video above, but I have thrown in a couple of day time ones as well and that is what I am finishing on.

A golden hare mini quilt

This is the design that I originally did and is the image you will see on the booking page.

Although the website obviously doesn’t like green so please don’t be put off by that.

When putting the kits together I decided they need a bit more interest.

This is the kit that you will get if you do this class.

Stamping a Still Life.

I really enjoy making small Still Life pieces and I want to show you how easy it is to create something with any small bits of fabric. It is a great way to use up your stash. I am not going to lie. I first put together this workshop in order to promote the use of Indian Block printing in the hope of enticing people to travel with me to India on a Textile Holiday in 2020. We all know how that one ended!

So although this might not be in my usual style I will be demonstrating how to successfully stamp a design as a focal point but also how to create your own fabric pieces for every part of a Still Life piece. Learn how these techniques can transfer into stamping with other tools and other techniques to create different styles.

Watch the video to see what I mean.

This class is advertised as Stamped and Stitched Flower Pot but it is about more than that.

Layered Landscapes.

The layering of strips of fabric to create a landscape is something that is in my style. This last one is similar to other I have done before but will include lots of samples of how I take this process a step further and will highlight techniques that I usually only get to share in a full day workshop.

mini landscape quilt workshops

This is the original design and I have finished it with some very simple straight line embroidery.

However the kits I have made up contains a selection of thread colours so that you can go for something more colourful if you so wish. I will also have extra fabrics that you can swap out if you want something a bit different.

All the samples I am bringing will give you lots of options to make it your own.

This year I was given the option, for the first time, to do a demonstration of the technique and provide a kit where that part has already been done for you. So these workshops are more of a tutorial as opposed to the hands on experiences of other years. Some may be disappointed in that but the good news is that there is no queuing for irons or waiting for paint to dry. After the initial demo you get to sit down while I give you a show and tell of all the samples.

There are still lots of spaces available and you can book a place here. It would be lovely to see you there.

You can use the the Search to type in my name to see my classes.

Please note that the ‘Suitable for Children’ option is incorrect, so don’t be put off by that.

I have nothing against children. I used to be a primary school teacher. These workshops were not designed with children in mind and it was an error not of my doing.
