SLOW STITCHED BOOK

USING UP MY SCRAPS

This book was started years ago as a way to use up the scraps and samples that I have accumulated while teaching workshops based around my Moon Gazing Hare design.

SLOW STITCHING

Some pages I simply stitched into. On others I used a couple of my favourite techniques.

SUNPRINTING

… with a bit of rust dyeing thrown in for free.

I used felt as the wadding in between pages, and because of the nature of slow stitching I was able to sometimes work on both sides through the felt without the stitches showing on the wrong side.

HAND CARVED LINO PRINT STAMP

…using an ink pad.

The motif of the hare and the hare’s tail grass is repeated throughout.

APPLIQUE

I think this was the first time I was brave enough to try hand turned applique. Making a book is a great opportunity to try out new things.

FREEZER PAPER STENCIL

…with raw edged scraps.

The back cover is a kantha inspired version of the pattern, made a long time ago. It was stitched on a piece of black denim, taken from an old pair of jeans.

I hope that you are inspired to make your own stitched book with your fabric scraps.

All of the pages of mine are shown below with a video at the end.
